Imma Geek (Back To Me) (Original Mix)

Three in the morning
Blue light on my face
Thirty tabs open
And I’ve lost my place
Coffee went cold
Hours ago
Terminal blinking
Like it already knows

Server goes red
Phone starts to ring
Service desk calling
With the same old thing
“Did you restart it?”
Yeah, twice tonight
Twenty years doing this
But sure, you might be right

One little ticket
Priority three
Nobody touched it
But it ends up with me
Everybody says
Nothing has changed
Funny how the network
Still gets all the blame

I’mma geek
That’s alright with me
Living in the glow
Of a thousand little screens
I’mma geek
Where I wanna be
When the whole world goes offline
It comes running back to me
Oh-oh
Back to me
Every broken little thing
Comes back to me
Oh-oh
Can’t you see?
Whole damn building
Stops without the geek

Back to me
Back to me

Back to me
Back to me
Every little problem
Comes back to me
Back to me
Back to me
Back to me
Back to me
I’mma geek

No IP
No hostname there
Screenshot of an error
With half the window bare
“It’s not working, mate”
That’s all they wrote
No logs, no details
Just a beautifully empty note
Five VLANs
Three VPNs
Rules in the firewall
Nobody understands
Boss says:
“Make it secure”
Then five minutes later:
“Why’s there a password anymore?”

Check the cable
Check the port
Maybe DNS
Service desk says:
“Yeah, we tried our best”
Ticket gets escalated
Straight up to me
One line in the notes:
“User says…
IT thing.”

I’mma geek
That’s alright with me
Living in the glow
Of a thousand little screens
I’mma geek
Where I wanna be
When the whole world goes offline
It comes running back to me
Oh-oh
Back to me
Every broken little thing
Comes back to me
Oh-oh
Can’t you see?
Whole damn building
Stops without the geek

Sometimes I wonder
If I disappeared
Would they read the ticket?
Would they figure it out from here?
Would they Google it?
Would they check the lead?
Would they maybe try
Before they send it straight to me?

No…
Probably not

Teams keeps ringing
Phone won’t stop
Someone says the Wi-Fi’s broken
From the bloody car park
Printer won’t print
Password won’t work
“It’s definitely the network”
No…
It’s really not

I’mma geek
And I’m good with that
Forty-seven windows open
And I need every tab
I’mma geek
Still here at three
Fixing everybody’s problems
While they swear it wasn’t me
I’mma geek
That’s alright with me
Living in the glow
Of a thousand little screens
And when everything goes wrong
When nobody knows
They all come running back
Yeah, they all come home

Back to me
Back to me
Every broken little thing
Comes back to me
Back to me
Back to me
Whole damn building
Stops without the geek
I’mma geek
I’mma geek
Yeah, that’s alright with me
I’mma geek
I’mma geek
Everything comes back to me

“Have you rebooted it?”
…
Yeah
Of course I fucking rebooted it

I’mma geek
